You Were A Genius
I know that education isn't the most exciting topic to read a news story on. The latest opinions from a politician (boo! hiss!) or professor on how children should be educated is far from what I would choose to read or write about.
However, this video is something different. For a start, the original speaker (Ken Robinson) is incredible - engaging, funny and able to explain ideas perfectly. The animation which is being done alongside the clip of Robinson's speech is brilliant. And his opinions on education are not of the normal kind.
Ken Robinson (Sir Ken, sorry) is all about thinking outside the box - clearly he does it, and he thinks children should be encouraged to as well.
People finding school boring does not automatically mean that they have a problem - rather the problem is that the education system, in its rigid format, does not allow for the diversity of people who get put through it.
Sir Ken says that everybody starts out with amazing ability for creative thinking, but that schools iron that out of you, leaving people who like academic things and can cope with exams to look clever, and people for whom academia is boring to look stupid. The worrying thing is that this latter group are starting to believe they are stupid.
In short, check out this video. It's basically someone much cleverer than your teachers, saying it's okay to find school boring!
