  • You Need An Axe To Chop

Yn Gymraeg

If you are reading this, then you are one of the select few who own a CLIC account. Congratulations.

But unfortunately, most people do not. This needs to change.

As I’m sure you are aware, our new government is very tight with its finances and let be honest: it won’t be long until they start cutting our budget and we find ourselves out on the street.

I’m sure you are all by now beginning to sob quietly to yourself in utter desperation. Perhaps you are already preparing an angry mob with which you shall hunt me down and do very horrible things to me. Or maybe you are about to throw your laptop/PC/mobile phone up against the wall in order to avoid reading this horrible truth.

To you, I say only this. Bear with me.

What if, and stay with me on this, we get other people to sign up for theSprout/Wicid/CLIC or whatever it is that you use? What if we contribute more articles and photos and events? What if we comment on things a little more and show them that we actually use these sites?

There is absolutely no reason (perhaps with the exception of pure laziness) why we cannot comment on different articles or photos. It’s so simple yet no-one seems to do it. You simply sign in, find an article and go to the comments box. Try it sometime. You’ll find it a lot easier than you thought!

It’s very straightforward to get a link to the CLIC website and post it on your Facebook profile page. Then just tell people to join. If just one person, who sees your link, visits the site, then you can count it as a success.

I’m looking on theSprout homepage as I type this (yes, I am that clever) and none of the articles, or even the features have any comments. None of them. The features… are empty. What is wrong with this picture?

If we can pull together and show people that we use, and make use of CLIC and all the sub-sites, how can they possibly pull our budget?

Sorry for the rant (insert smiley face here).

I think Arielle is meeting with Nick Clegg tomorrow to discuss this very issue!

Well, that's a slight bend of the truth! I'm going to a Q&A session with him and will try and ask him some questions about cuts. If anyone wants to come- it's 11.45am tomorrow- but you'll need to e-mail me a.s.a.p on arielle@thesprout.co.uk and you'll need to bring photo I.D.

Do you know something we at CLIC don't, Stormer007? *shuffles papers and checks emails looking for word of funding pulling*

Hi Stormer,

If you want to come, you need to e-mail me. It's in a secret location ;)

I need to give the security your name if you want to come, so get in touch a.s.a.p. You need to be available at 11.45-2pm (ish) tomorrow afternoon.

Like a lot of other things in life I assumed The Sprout would be at my disposal indefinitely and have taken it slightly for granted as a result. It is such an excellent resource for young people both for information and as a showcase for their writing (and mine too.) But having found out today via this article and again at the editorial meeting this afternoon that due to funding this is potentially not the case I will take your advice and spread the word further than I have been until now. As there is nothing worse than appreciating something more after it has gone.

Cool :) Thanks :) It just seems like if theSprout get's cut, it's such a waste of all our time and talent. I mean we've all put so much effort into this and if it get's cut, where doe sthat leave us?

Maybe it's just not good enough..... oh well *sigh* :P
You think it would make sense so that everyone can start doing stuff for it.

Thanks anyway Dan :) MEans a lot that you think it's good enough :)

The Sprout has been one of the most positive things that the assembly has ever done for young people and clic is da bomb fair play, so why cut it? I for one have got so much out of it and I'd have missed out big time if I hadn't turned up in grassroots for those original three man meetings, as they often were- I've watched the sprout grow if you'd excuse the pun and I'd be gutted if it got the chop.
