Do you like writing, reading, literary puns, or a good game of Scrabble? If so, then join me and theSprout at 6.30pm in Chapter Arts Centre on February 25th to celebrate the launch of My Words, My Voice, Cardiff’s first under 25 open-mic night!

Although our lovely capital hosts some wonderful poetry evenings, it seems they mostly cater to older, published writers. As an emerging poet and young person myself, I know reading in the company of these accomplished men and women can be intimidating! I hope My Words, My Voice will give young people an exciting and welcoming space to share their poetry, prose, monologues, rhymes, and anything else they are working on! And, for those of you who don’t to write or want to share, there will be mingling and literary board games aplenty, so come along and join the fun!

This event is free and all are welcome, but you must be under 25 years old to read. Young people from East Moors Youth Centre will be kicking off the night, but there will be plenty of time for everyone else to share their work. So, if you would like to read, please bring something along and sign up when you arrive.

For any of you out there who love to write but have never read your work in public before (or have, but are still not totally comfortable with it), I’ll be holding a free “Performance Prep” workshop at East Moors Youth Centre in Splott. This workshop will teach you how to relax and read or perform your piece confidently in front of an audience. We may even get to watch some of my favourite performance poets in action as well!

I am available to hold this “Performance Prep” workshop on either Friday, February 10th from 5 to 7 or on Wednesday, February 15th from 4 to 6. Please leave comments below and let me know which date and time would work best for you.

Also, if anyone is artistically inclined and would like to try their hand at making some literary bunting or banners for the open mic let me know!

I hope this will be the first of many My Words, My Voice events around Cardiff. Come help make us create a great space for writers, readers, and literary lovers alike!
