The Manifestation Of CLIC

Yn Gymraeg

Being the multimedia lover I am, I have decided to treat you all with two forms of media: both the written word and the recorded video!

You may remember a couple of months ago, a video hit CLIConline all about commenting (Best. Video. Ever. (Until. Now.) - ed).

Well, the video was such a success that my dear friend Gareth (known to you wonderful people as CrazyDistortion, check him out) and I got together to create another topical video about issues that are facing CLIC.

It’s been nearly a month in production (most of that time spent in editing… yes, I’m looking at you, Gareth) but it’s here. I have decided to include, for your entertainment, the original script. You can see how it transpired onto the screen.

CLIC Video
A shot of eyes appears!
Presenter: Breaking News!
The shot changes to one of mass devastation. Scattered throughout a park are dead/unconscious corpses. The shot sweeps from corpses up to the presenter.
Presenter: As you can see from the devastation around me, the crisis struck only very recently! Surrounding me are poor people who have been badly affected by this awful problem! Wait Gareth! This one is still alive! Quickly.
The presenter and cameraman run over to a boy/girl/man/woman who is moaning and is a rough condition.
Presenter: Ma’am/Sir, can you tell us what you just experienced? What happened here?
Citizen: What happened? I… *cough* there was… a monster. A huge monster.
Presenter: But what was this monster? What was it called? What did it look like?
Citizen: It was… so powerful… it called… to us before it announced he was… going to destroy us. He looked… right at me before he stormed through and… and… it was called… it called itself the (s/he faints).
Presenter: Typical. Now what do we do Gareth? We need to find out what this crisis is and what we can do to stop it!
A shot of some black shoes accompanies a voice.
Voice: I think I can help you out there.
Shot of presenter:
The Doctor: But who are you?
The camera tilts up from the figures shoes to reveal black skinny jeans, a shirt jacket, tweed jacket, braces and a bow tie.
The Doctor: I’m the Doctor. Hi.
Presenter: Doctor? Doctor Who?
The Doctor: Oh I love it when people ask me that!
Presenter: What are you talking about? Look, you said you can help us! How? Do you know what that was? Is?
The Doctor: As a matter of fact I do. But it’ll cost you. I need two jammy dodgers, a copy of Lady Gaga’s new album, a brand new writing pad, a large novelty pen and access to a website called CLIConline.
A shot of black occurs with the words “two jammy dodgers, one copy of Lady Gaga’s new album, one brand new writing pad and one large novelty pen later” on it.
The Presenter: Right, here. Here’s your stuff. I don’t entirely understand what you need it all for.
The Doctor: You haven’t been paying any attention at all have you?
Presenter: Well… umm… I…
The Doctor: That creature isn’t an ordinary run of the mill alien. This alien doesn’t exist in physical form. Well, it does because it did this, but it doesn’t have a physical form of its own! It’s a manifestation of the lack of videos on that website I was telling you about. CLIConline. The longer the website goes without videos, the more and more negative energy this monster has to thrive on. If you really want to stop this monster you have to spread the message to the young people of CLIC. (He grabs the camera and talks into it) Make videos. That’s what cameras are for. That’s why CLIC has a video enabled feature! Videos are such a great way of expressing your opinion and what’s more, it’ll stop that horrific monster striking again. It got dangerously close to my favourite chip shop!
Gareth takes back the camera and points it at Sam.
Presenter: But Doctor, do you really think we can stop this monster?
The Doctor: You really haven’t been paying attention have you? Look, I have seen a glimpse of the future of this website. A site which has its own dedicated video section. A site that allows young people to express their opinions even if they’re not the greatest of writers. A site that is fun for all and gives young people the opportunity to explore and develop their imagination and creativity. Yes. You can help stop this monster, but more importantly, you can help yourselves!.... Now, have you seen a large blue box, I seem to have misplaced…. (he wanders off).
Presenter: (turns to face the camera) Tell me you got all that! (the camera nods).

End.

This is a really series issue. In response to this need for more video's I have ordered a flip camcorder for each Youth Editorial Group across Wales in the CLIC Collective and for each of our Development Officers ........... by the way for all the Whovians out there "Bow ties are cool!"

Thank you for an excellent video it really made me smile!

Couple o' things.

First off, an apology. It did take a while to edit this due to my computer deciding to play dead for a fair bit of time and the annoying complication of not knowing how to reduce the size of the final file. T'was something around the 8GB size. No idea how on earth it turned out that big, though I managed to get it down. Had to resort to using Movie Maker to reduce it to nearly 100MB. I guess I really need Final Cut Pro or that Compressor app they've got. Ah well. If anyone knows how I can make file sizes relatively small from After Effects (or how I can get Final Cut Pro for cheap), let me know. =].

Second, (in response to GeoffCLIC's comment) so that means each editorial group will have one flip camera between them? That'd be sweeeet.

Oh, and may I be cheeky and ask people to go onto the YouTube page and to like that video? Maybe the person who moderates Clic's YouTube account could favourite it? =].

Brilliant I love Doctor Who. Bow Ties are Cool, Fezzes are cool and Stedsons are cool. Go Doctor. He even looks like Matt Smith.

Hi Crazydistortion - yes the flip cams or something very like them should be arriving in the next few weeks, we just have to ship them out to the editorial groups via our counties development team - Expect them by the end of July :)
